Grovertown Man Arrested Following Domestic Dispute

On 8/11/2025, at approximately 1700 hrs, Deputies with the Starke County Sheriff’s Office, investigated a domestic dispute in the 5000 N block of SR 23. It was reported a female went to the residence to retrieve belongings. There a male battered her, displayed a firearm, and made threats to kill the parties involved.

Deputies arrived, secured the scene. The male exited the residence. Consent to search was given.

Deputies located several firearms, including a tan colored 9mm Sig Sauer handgun that was described by the victim.

A potential improvised explosive device was located. The South Bend Bomb Squad was contacted. Members of the South Bend and Porter County Bomb Squad responded. 

This is believed to be an isolated incident with no further threat to the public at this time.

Deputies also located numerous glass smoking devices, scales, straws, and other suspected drug paraphernalia.

Devin Akers (37), of Grovertown, was taken into custody. Mr. Akers is currently housed at the Starke County Justice Center and preliminarily charged with:

  • Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon a Level 5 Felony
  • Possession of Methamphetamine a Level 6 Felony
  • Domestic Battery an A Misdemeanor
  • Possession of Paraphernalia a C Misdemeanor 

As a reminder, suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Formal charging to be determined by the Starke County Prosecutor.
