On 7/2/2025, at approximately 6:40 P.M., the Starke County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Rensselaer Police Department to assist with locating Charles Oliver (49), of Clayton Indiana. It was reported Mr. Oliver fled on foot from a personal injury crash in their jurisdiction. Mr. Oliver had an active parole warrant. It was also reported Mr. Oliver had a knife on his person and was a known flight risk.
Information about the possible whereabouts of Mr. Oliver was given in the 8000 S block of US 421 in San Pierre. Deputies arrived checked the area and spoke to area homeowners.
Drones from Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, and Starke County Sheriff’s Office were utilized to check the area. Starke County K9 Mack and Pulaski County K9 Tiko were also utilized in the search efforts checking a heavily wooded area.
After nearly six (6) hours of searching officers were directed to a residence in the 10000 W block of SR 10 in San Pierre.
Officers observed Mr. Oliver through a glass storm door in a shed on the property. Mr. Oliver was taken into custody.
In the immediate area where Mr. Oliver was standing was a clear plastic bag. This bag contained approximately 0.84 grams of suspected methamphetamine and approximately 2.72 grams of suspected marijuana.
Mr. Oliver is currently incarcerated at the Starke County Justice Center with preliminary charges of:
- Possession of Methamphetamine a Level 6 Felony
- Possession of Marijuana a B Misdemeanor
The Starke County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by: Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, Indiana DNR, Medaryville Police Department, and the North Judson Police Department.
Formal charging to be determined by the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office. As a reminder, all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
